8 legacies through state support and in-depth research programs. The commission will monitor the state of preservation or development of historical sites in Maryland associated with the era of slavery. Such monitoring also will extend to historic African-American communities dispersed throughout the State that developed as a result of slavery, Reconstruction, and Jim-Crow practices. 8 . Trail and Corridor Preservation The Task Force recommends establishment of a commission which in an advisory capacity will keep Maryland abreast of how it may support programs and initiatives to commemorate the Underground Railroad as well as various historic corridors in Maryland associated with the history and legacy of slavery. 9 . Mass Media The Task Force recommends establishment of a commission that will work to encourage more accessible and accurate mass media coverage of topics relating to the history and legacy of slavery, including its continuing effects within the State of Maryland. The commission will work with all mass media to develop programming for classroom and home use.
