Sources:

In the Baltimore City directory of 1847-48 Emanuel Raab is listed as a tailor at 16
Balderston Street.

In the City directories of 1855-56  and 1856-57, an Emanuel Rab is listed
as a merchant tailor at 50 South Charles Street
 

In 1855 he was convicted of receiving stolen goods in Anne Arundel county
(the case having been removed from Baltimore City).  On appeal it was
decided that AA co did not have
jurisdiction and the docket indicates the case was sent back to the
Baltimore City Court.

William Pinkney Whyte (later governor) defended Raab.
 
 

Emanuel Rab appears in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses. He was not found in the 1880 or 1900 soundex index under R100.

The last Baltimore City Directory Emanuel Rab appears in is 1894. He is
listed on page 1114 as a tailor at 1026 E. Baltimore St BALTIMORE CITY
DIRECTORY COLLECTION [MSA SC2898, M2158]. Emanuel Rab died August 6, 1894
at the age of 73 BALTIMORE CITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, BUREAU OF VITAL
STATISTICS (Death Record) #A69311 [MSA CM 1132-52, CR 48,096]. His
occupation is listed as retired. He does not appear in the BALTIMORE CITY
REGISTER OF WILLS (Estate Docket) between August 1894 and October 1895.

The only record in the Baltimore City Criminal Court:

1-30-1855 charged with receiving stolen goods
2-1-1855 $1000 bail
2-12-1855 enters not guilty plea, case removed to Circuit Court of Anne
Arundel County, and to be heard in Annapolis the 3rd Monday of April
 

There were no other entries for Emanuel Rab/Rabb/Raub found in this volume
to indicate that the case was sent back to Balitmore City by the Anne
Arundel judge. Since the case was decided by the Court of Appeals in June
1855, no other BC Criminal Court Dockets were checked..
 

There were no references to Emanuel Rab in the BALTIMORE CITY JAIL (City
Criminal Docket, Index) 1855-1858 [MSA C2060-1, 2-72-3-45] or in
BALTIMORE CITY JAIL (City Criminal Docket) 1854-1855 [MSA C2057-2,
2-72-1-25], in case he was arrested in late 1854, and therefore would not
be covered in the 1855 index. There were no entries under Rabb between
November 1854 and January 1855.

The MARYLAND PENITENTIARY (Prisoners Record, Index) 1840-1894/04 [MSA
S277-1, 1-30-4-18] contains one reference to Emanuel Rabb, #4906.

Efforts to locate his real property as listed in the 1870 census:

Emanuel Raab is listed in the BC Directories at 1026 E. Baltimore St. from
1889 until his death in 1894. This address may lie on either block 1337 or
1338. No transactions with Emanuel Raab between 1888 or 1889 for this block
were found among the real estate transactions index (called the block books).
 

He is  listed at 237 S. Charles St. in 1867, and remains there until
1889. No references to Emanuel Raab were found for 1866-1870 at block 896.
Perhaps this was not the real property mentioned in the 1870 census? Is it
possible that he owned his home, but that this was his business address?
