In the Baltimore City directory of 1847-48 Emanuel Raab is listed as
a tailor at 16
Balderston Street.
In the City directories of 1855-56 and 1856-57, an Emanuel Rab
is listed
as a merchant tailor at 50 South Charles Street
In 1855 he was convicted of receiving stolen goods in Anne Arundel county
(the case having been removed from Baltimore City). On appeal
it was
decided that AA co did not have
jurisdiction and the docket indicates the case was sent back to the
Baltimore City Court.
William Pinkney Whyte (later governor) defended Raab.
Emanuel Rab appears in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses. He was not
found in the 1880 or 1900 soundex index under R100.

1894
at the age of 73 BALTIMORE CITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, BUREAU OF VITAL
STATISTICS (Death Record) #A69311 [MSA CM 1132-52, CR 48,096]. His
occupation is listed as retired. He does not appear in the BALTIMORE
CITY
REGISTER OF WILLS (Estate Docket) between August 1894 and October 1895.

to indicate that the case was sent back to Balitmore City by the Anne
Arundel judge. Since the case was decided by the Court of Appeals in

1889 until his death in 1894. This address may lie on either block
1337 or
1338. No transactions with Emanuel Raab between 1888 or 1889 for this
block
were found among the real estate transactions index (called the block
books).
He is listed at 237 S. Charles St. in 1867, and remains there
until
1889. No references to Emanuel Raab were found for 1866-1870 at block
896.
Perhaps this was not the real property mentioned in the 1870 census?
