This is the first reel of film added to our Early State Records Collection that was not part of the original series created by William Sumner Jenkins. We are adding records from microfilm that continue Jenkins series when we believe they can not be converted to text by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. Any records that can be converted to text by OCR will be added to the Archives of Maryland Online (AOMOL).

The Early State Records Series was created between 1941 and 1950 as a joint project by the Library of Congress and the University of North Carolina. Edited by William Sumner Jenkins it resulted in 1600 reels of microfilm containing government records from 48 states. There were 68 reels created containing records from Maryland up to 1867. They are the starting point from which new transcribed and indexed volumes in the Archives of Maryland in part will be derived. We have placed each microfilm online exactly as it was filmed by Jenkins.
