Biography:

Born, March 1, 1868, New Nottingham, Cecil County, Maryland. Son of Jane M. Janney and Samuel Tyson. Graduated University of Maryland Law School, 1905. Admitted to the Bar, 1905. Married, Annie Jenness; one son, Allen G. Tyson. Died, March 14, 1913, Baltimore City, Maryland. Buried, Colora, Cecil County, Maryland.

Farmer in Cecil County until 1898. Police Office, Baltimore City, 1898-1905; initially served in Northwestern District, later clerk in Central District. Attended law school while serving as police officer. Attorney in private practice, 1905-1908. Appointed Police Justice, Northwestern District, 1908; served until 1912. Operated Black Barren Springs Hotel, Pleasant Grove, Pennsylvania, 1912-1913. Friend and political ally of Gov. Austin Crothers, which lead to his appointment as Police Justice. The Baltimore Sun noted that Tyson while justice, Tyson "made his name one of terror to the negroes of the Northwestern district."
