Outerbridge Horsey (1777-1842)

Biography:

Born, March 5, 1777, in Sussex County, Delaware. Married Elizabeth Digges Lee (1782-1862), daughter of Mary Digges and Thomas Sim Lee, April 15, 1812. Father of Outerbridge Horsey (1819-1902); Mary Ellen (b. 1813); Caroline; Thomas Sim Lee. Died at "Needwood," Frederick County, June 9, 1842. Buried at St. John's Cemetery, Petersville, Maryland.

Studied law with James A. Bayard. Admitted to the Bar, 1807, and began practicing law in Wilmington, Delaware. Served in Delaware State House of Representatives, 1800-1802. Attorney General of Delaware, 1806-1810. United States Senator, 1810-1821; Federalist.
