Ignatius Davis (1759-1828)

Biography:

Born 1759. Married Margaret Wooten, daughter of Richard Wooten, at Rock Creek Parish, Montgomery County, Maryland, 22 May 1798; one child, Frances Rebbecca. Married Catherine Lackland (d. 1850), 22 November 1806. Nine children: Margaret Ann; Catherine Lackland, married Dr. Albert Ritchie, children included Albert Ritchie; Sarah Jane; Frances Rebecca; Richard Wooten; James Lynn; Meredith; John Ignatius; George Lynn; Thomas Ignatius. Died, "Mount Hope," Frederick County, 1828.

Served in House of Delegates 1812, 1813 Special Session, 1816, and 1820; Federalist. At the time of his death, owned nearly 3000 acres of land, including land in Genesee County, New York. Active member of Methodist Episcopal Church. Known that two of his slaves, William and Davy, ran away in November, 1823.
