Biography:

Born February 11, 1842 in Golden Hill, Dorchester County, Maryland. Son of John E. and Ann Tubman Applegarth. Attended St. John's College. Married Nettie Keene (b. 1853), 1877. Five children: William F. Jr. (b. 1877), Anita (b. 1880), Hubert (b. 1885), and Cecil (b. 1892). Died December 21, 1921, Golden Hill, Maryland.

Businessman, and merchant. Taught school in Dorchester County for fifteen years. Elected to Maryland House of Delegates in 1894, and served in Maryland Senate 1898-1904. Active in Democratic Party in Dorchester County. Unsuccessful candidate for Congress and Comptroller. President, Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Cambridge; Director, Dorchester National Bank.
