Biography:

Born October 16, 1839, in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Son of Daniel and Barbara Ely Dobler, German immigrants. Married twice: Catherine Dobler; Ida Gertrude Gehring (b. 1862), 1875. Three children: Martin Luther (b. 1890), Emma Catherine (b. 1893), and Mary Christina (b. 1895). Died in Baltimore, Maryland, September 4, 1906; buried at Greenmont Cemetery.

Mover to Baltimore in 1858 and worked in paper business. Joined firm of Wheelwright & Mudge, 1860; later head of Dobler & Mudge, 1875. Served in Maryland Senate, 1896 and 1898; Republican. Member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church; trustee, St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Seminary; director, German Orphan Asylum; member German Society of Maryland. Member, Baltimore Reform League; Civil Service Reform Association.
