Unable to locate Gildea, Gilday, or Gilder family in the 1850 census.

1860 census entry for Francis Gildey, Baltimore City 12th Ward. He is a 41yr old bricklayer. His household includes his wife, Susan and their children: David (a 16yr old apprentice bricklayer), John F., Mary F., and George A. Margaretta Gildey is also in the household, but her relationship is unclear.

1870 census entry for Frank Gildea, Baltimore City 11th Ward. He is a 52yr old brick mason. His household includes his wife, Susan, and their children: Daivd, John, Mary, George, and Annie. David and John are both listed as brick masons while the other children attend school.

1880 census entry for Francis Gildea, Baltimore City 13th Ward. He is a 66yr old brick layer. His household includes his wife, Susan, and their sons John and George, daughter Annie, and daughter Mary F. Watkins and her family. John Gildea is a 30yr old brick layer. Francis dies the following year.

1880 census entry for Michael Gildea, Baltimore City 16th Ward. He is a 36yr old brick mason. His household includes his wife, Margaret E., and their children: Francis D., William, and Charlotte. Although the first name is Michael, this entry is presumably for David M. Gildea, as the age, spouse, and daughter's name are the same.

Unable to locate David Gildea in 1900 census. Also, he does not appear in the 1890 veteran census or any sources about Civil War soldiers. Note: There is a Michael Gildea who served in the 11th Regiment of the Maryland Infantry.

1910 census entry for David Gildea. He is living in Baltimore City in a household with his daughter and son-in-law. He dies at their home in Catonsville the following year.
