Biography:

Born: November 24, 1856, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Son of Rev. Daniel and Margaret (Schwartz)Gans. Married Elziabeth Wall, 1884. Eight children were born from this marraige. Educated in the public schools of Norristown, Pennsylvania & Baltimore, Maryland. Baltimore City College 1875, with honors. University of Maryland School of Law, 1877. Admitted to the bar Novemebr 23, 1877. Practiced in the law firm of John P. Poe, 1877-1879. Sponsored the admission of Everett J. Waring, first African-American attorney admitted to practice in the Maryland courts, 1885. Started a private practice 1887-1914. Professor of Criminal Law, University of Maryland School of Law 1882-1901. Formed a practice with B. Howard Haman, Gans & Haman, 1889-1914. Died Septemeber 20, 1914.

Appointed Deputy State's Attorney for Baltimore City by Charles G. Kerr, 1879-1887.
