Biography:

Born October 28, 1811 in Alexandria, Virginia. Son of James King Swann. Married Anna Hill Smith (1816-2/17/1892), November 1834. Children: Samuel Stanhope Swann (1836-2/7/1853); Capt. Thomas Laurens Swann, USN (10/1841-7/13/1922); Anna Barton Swann (1843-4/18/1850); Caroline Laurens (1850-6/18/1870). Died May 7, 1877 in Annapolis, Maryland. Buried St. Anne's Cemetery, Annapolis, Maryland.

Commissary, U.S. Naval Academy, c. 1851-1877. Mayor of Annapolis, 1843-45, 46-48, 56-58, 66-67. State Librarian, appointed 1845. As State Librarian, Swann was appointed to a committee to oversee repairs to the State House, 1846-47. Member, House of Delegates, Annapolis, 1837-38. Director, Farmers' National Bank of Annapolis. Proprietor, City Hotel, Annapolis.
