Stephen J. Bradley (1808-1879)

Biography:

Born December 17, 1808, in Caroline County, Maryland.  Son of John Bradley (d. 1820) and Rebecca Jump Bradley (d. 1818).  Resided near Hillsboro and at "Cottage Hill" near Sudlersville, Queen Anne's County, Maryland.  Married first wife Maria F. Baynard, June 29, 1828.  Five children included Rebecca Ann (d. 1848).  Married second wife Elizabeth Baynard.  Died at Cottage Hill, August 14, 1879.

Store clerk.  Farmer.  Elected sheriff as a Whig, Queen Anne's County, 1848-51.  Member, Maryland Senate (Whig), Queen Anne's County, 1854.  Member, Maryland House of Delegates (American Party), Queen Anne's County, 1858-61.  Delegate (Democrat), 1867 Constitutional Convention of Maryland.  Member, Methodist Episcopal Church.
