Biography:

Born Samuel King Dennis, Jr. at Beverly, Worchester County, Maryland, September 28, 1874.  Son of Samuel K. Dennis and Sally Handy Crisfield.  Descended from a family prominent in the legal and political professions of Maryland.  Attended local public schools and Blairstown Academy, Blairstown, New Jersey.  Graduated University of Maryland, 1903.  Admitted to the bar, June 30, 1904.  Married, Helen Moore Dennis. Died January 11, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Private secratary to Congressman (later Governor) John Walter Smith, 1900-1904.  Elected to House of Delegates as a Democrat, 1904.  Practiced law in partnership with cousin John Upshur Dennis.  U.S. Attorney for Maryland, 1915-1920.  Named Chief Judge of Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, August, 1928.  President, Maryland State Bar Association, 1933-1934.  Retired from the Bench, September 28, 1944, and returned to private practice.  Head of American Red Cross, 1942-1945.  First member of the Supreme Bench to wear a robe.  Credited with several innovations in organization and administration of the Supreme Bench.  Leader of efforts to improve Maryland's sanitarium system.  Vice President, Maryland Historical Society.  Director, Fidelity Trust Co.; Fidelity & Deposit.  Trustee, First Presbyterian Church of Baltimore.
