Shirley B. Jones (1925-2019)

Born Shirley Brannock in Cambridge, Maryland, June 27, 1925. Daughter of Linwood and Edith (Lake) Brannock. Attended the University of Baltimore, A.A., 1944; University of Baltimore Law School, J.D., 1946.  Admitted to the Maryland Bar, 1947. Married William L. Jones, 1953. Died May 16, 2019, in Towson, Maryland.

Assistant city solicitor, Baltimore City, 1952-58.
First woman to serve as Assistant attorney general of Maryland (1958-59).
First woman to sit on the supreme bench of Baltimore City (1961) and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland (1979).
Member, American, Maryland State, and Baltimore City Bar Associations.
Member, American Judicature Society.
Alumna of the year, University of Baltimore.
Honorary doctor of laws degree, Loyola College and University of Baltimore.
