Biography:

Born in Helena, Montana, November 19, 1937.  Attended Reed College; University of Montana, B.A., history and political science, 1959.  Married; three children. Died November 15, 2016, in Nashville, Tennessee.

General Assembly:
House of Delegates, Legislative District 24 (D), Montgomery County, 1991-2003. Member, Environmental Matters Committee, 1995-99, 2001-2003 (agriculture, environment & natural resources subcommittee, 2001-2003; public utilities subcommittee, 2001-2003; environmental & natural resources subcommittee, 1995-99); Special Joint Committee on Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program, 1995-2003. Member, Constitutional and Administrative Law Committee, 1991-93; Judiciary Committee, 1993; Commerce and Government Matters Committee, 1994; Appropriations Committee, 1999-2000 (health & human resources subcommittee, 1999-2000; oversight committee on pensions, 1999-2000; oversight committee on program open space & agricultural land preservation, 1999-2000); Special Joint Committee on Pensions, 2000. Chair, Transportation Committee, Montgomery County Delegation, 1996-2003.

Private Career and Other Public Service:
Served in U.S. Naval Reserve, 1955-63.  Staff director, U.S. Senate Environment Subcommittee, 1966-78.  Lecturer and writer on politics and environment; principal staff on federal environmental laws, 1966-78.  Administrative assistant to U.S. Senator Edmund Muskie, 1978-80.  Executive assistant to U.S. secretary of state, 1980-81.  Political consultant.  Director, Washington Politics Program, University of Southern California, 1981-94. Executive director, U.S. Senate Democratic Campaign Committee, 1982-83.  Member, Task Force to Study Retail Electric Competition and the Restructuring of the Electric Utility Industry, 1997-98.
