Mike Donovan

Bernard Webster "Mike" Donovan, 83, of Annapolis, who represented Prince George's County in the Maryland General Assembly from 1967 to 1986, died Nov. 18 at Grand Strand Memorial Hospital in Myrtle Beach, S.C., from complications of a fall.

Mr. Donovan served in the House of Delegates for 12 years, including as assistant majority floor leader for nearly eight years, and then was elected to the Senate in 1979. He was assistant majority whip, co-chairman of the Protocol Committee and member of the Economic and Environmental Affairs Committee.

Born Feb. 10, 1920, in Baltimore, he attended Baltimore parochial schools, Butler University and the University of Maryland. During World War II he flew with the Army Air Corps and retired as a major in 1964.

He was employed as a real estate broker.

He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission and was past president of the Alben Barkley Democratic Club. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was an avid golfer.

On June 21, 1941, he married Anna Green Donovan, who died April 26 this year.

Surviving are two children, John M. Donovan of Queenstown and Nancy L. Carr of Laurel; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. A funeral Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton.
