Isaac Nevett Steele (1806-1891)

Biography:

Born in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland on April 25, 1809. Son of Mary Nevett and James Steele. Educated by Rev. Nathaniel Wheaton. Attended Cambridge Academy; St. John's College, Annapolis; Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut. Read law with Alexander Contee Magruder; David Hoffman. Admitted to the Bar, 1830. Married Rosa L. Nelson, 1849; eight children, including Rev. I. Nevett Steele, Jr.; Charles Steele; John N. Steele; S. Tagart Steele; Henry Steele; three daughters. Died on April 11, 1891, in Baltimore City, Maryland.

Prominent attorney. Deputy Attorney General, Baltimore County, 1839-1849. Charge D'Affaires, Venezuela, 1849-1853. Chairman, Whig State Central Committee. Presidential Elector, 1880; Democrat.
