Married (1) Mary Elizabeth Allen (d. 8/15/1986), June 8, 1939; two children: Richard E. Lankford, Jr and Sallie Estep Lankford Griffin. Married (2) Edna Earl Perrie, 1990. Died September 22, 2003, in Easton, Maryland. Buried, St. James' Episcopal Church, Lothian, Maryland.
Lawyer and famer. Managed tobacco and cattle farms in Anne Arundel County. Lieutenant, U.S. Naval Reserve, 1942-1946. Member, Maryland Legislative Council, 1953. Member, Maryland House of Delegates, Anne Arundel County, 1949-1954. Member, U.S. House of Representatives, 5th District, 1955-1965. Delegate, Democratic National Convention, 1956 and 1960.
