Thomas Buchanan (1768-1847)

Biography:

Born near Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, on September 25, 1768. Son of Anne Cooke and Thomas Buchanan. Brother of John Buchanan. Married in 1797, a Miss. Anderson [first name unknown], the daughter of Meliora (Ogle) and James Anderson; Meliora was the daughter of Samuel Ogle. Five children: Ann; Meliora; Harriet Rebecca; Mary Sophia; James; Thomas. Died in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, September 27, 1847.

Practiced law in Charles and St. Mary's counties. House of Delegate, Charles County, 1797-1798. Governor's Council, 1799-1800. Associate Judge, Fourth Judicial Circuit of Maryland, 1815-1847. Member, Board of Public Works, 1825-1828.
