William L. Henderson (1894-1984)

Biography:

Born in Philadelphia on December 8, 1894. Son of Charles English and Ida Mary (Lynn) Henderson. Raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  Attended the Gilman School (1911); University of Virginia, B.A (1914).; Harvard Law School, LL.B., 1919. Married Vera Cameron Price (Fitz Randolph), August 23, 1923. One son, Richard Henderson. Died March 23, 1984.

Served in U.S. Navy, World War I.  Private law practice, 1919-1931, with Stewart & Pearre, later with All, Henderson & Freeman.  Assistant Attorney General of Maryland, 1931-1938.  Deputy Attorney General of Maryland, 1938-1941.  Chair, State Tax Commission, 1941-1943.  Judge, Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, 1943-1944.  Associate Judge, Court of Appeals of Maryland, 1944-64; Chief Judge, 1964.  Delegate from Anne Arundel County, 1967 Constitutional Convention of Maryland.  Chair, Commission to Study a Revision of the Testamentary Laws of the State.  Member, Maryland State Library Committee; American Bar Assocation; Maryland State Bar Association; Bar Association of Baltimore City; the Lawyers Round Table; the Maryland Club; the Gibson Island Club; the 16 W. Hamilton Street Club; the Sourther Maryland Society; the Crusing Club of America, the Maryland Ornithological Society; the Historic Annapolis Society; the Maryland Historical Society.
