Robert John Jump (1833-1912)

Biography:

Born near Oakland, Caroline County, December 7, 1833.  Son of John Jump of Purnell and Elizabeth Clements Jump.  Attended Denton Academy; studied law.  Admitted to the Maryland bar, 1857.  Married Laura Cochran in 1855; children Elizabeth E. Jump Pippin, Alexander (d. aged two), Ella Jump Todd, Robert J., Charles C.  Died in Denton, Caroline County, November 12, 1912.  Buried in Denton Cemetery.

Assistant clerk of the circuit court, 1844-57; clerk, 1857-63.  Comptroller of the treasury, 1864-67.  State's attorney for Caroline County, 1891-96.  Register of wills, 1896-1912.  Grand Master, masons.  Member, Methodist Episcopal church.
