Court Anno Domini 1747
Charles County 24th May 1747 The Deposition of John Farthing aged Sixty years Who being Sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God Declares that about Twenty five years ago James Thompson Came with this Deponant to a Poplar tree by which he Now stands (Which Poplar stands Closs by a swamp Near the head of Swansons Creek & Closs by the main Road side that leads to the head of said Creek) & told him that the said tree was the beginning Tree of Massons Land Which the said Masson sold to M.r Plater & further the sd Deponant saith not and the said John Farthing further declares that the same day the said James Thompson shewed him the said Poplar came with him within a hundred yards of the Ridge where he Now stands and told him that on the said Ridge there stood a bounded oak of Massons Land and further this Deponant Saith not his John F Farthing mark Charles County 24th May 1747 The Deposition of Thomas Lawson aged forty one years who being sworn on the holy Evangelists of Almighty God Declares that he was told about Twenty years ago (But don't remember by whom) that the Poplar tree mentioned in John Farthings Deposition was a bound tree of Callertons land and further this Deponant saith Not Thomas Lawson Charles County ss.t We the subscribers do hereby Certifie to the Worshipfull Justices of the County aforesaid that Pursuant to the Commission hereunto Annexed to us directed after every thing Requisite being Performed according to Law We Examined all such Evidences as came before us Relating to the bounds of the Land mentioned in the said Commission and Reduced the same into Writing as may appear by the hereunto annexed Given under our hands & Seals the 24th May Annoque Domini 1747 George Maxwell (SS) John Estep (SS) Be it Remembered that Pursuant to an order of Court holden at Charles Town on the Second Tuesday in November last Commission Issued Returnable here &C.a To Examine Evidences touching the bounds of a Tract of Land lying in the said County in Possession of Alexander Smith Hawkins in the Words following Vizt Charles County ss Charles Absolute Lord and Propry of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltimore &C.a To M.r John Winter Captain Benjamin Douglass Mr Lemuel Chunn and John Hanson Jun Gentleman Whereas Alexander Smith Hawkins is Seized of a Tract or Parcel of Land called Moretown lying in the said County on the Tenth day of March being in the Thirty Second year of our Dominion &C.a Prefer his Certain Petition in Writing to our Court that is to say to our County Court held at Charles Town in and for the said County on the day aforesaid before Robert Hanson Gent and his Associates then and Still our Justices within our County aforesaid &C.a for (Commission) |
