(202) November Court Anno Domini 1747
Be it Remembered that heretofore to wit the second Tuesday in August last by the oath of Fifteen Jurors Namely Thomas Matthews &C.a was Presented Philip Jenkins for not keeping the Roads in good Repair in his Presincts And now here at this day to wit the second Tuesday in November aforesaid the afs.d Philip in Custody of the sheriff Namely Tho.s Hungerford Gent to the Barr here brought in his proper person Comes and being Demanded of him wether he be Guilty of the matter as by the Presentment afs.d above against him it is alledged he the said Philip says he is ^not^ thereof Guilty yet for that he will not Contend with his Lordship the Lord Proprietary in this part Humbly submits himself to the Court Therefore it is Considered by the Court here that the said Philip be fined one Hundred Pounds of Tobacco for his offence afs.d by the Court here adjudged and that the said Philip be taken &Ca Whereupon into Court in his proper Person Comes William Middleton of Charles County Merchant and becomes Pledge and security for the afs.d Philip to pay the fine afs.d as also the several fees arisen due to the officers and ministers of the Court hereby occasion of the Premises
