To the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Kent County
       This is to certify that a negro woman named Emma
Francis Washington now present and applying for a certificate
of freedom was born of a free woman and raised
in Kent County and is now about nineteen years of age
September 10 1855                           James Graves
       Emma is five feet three and three quarter inches high
of a light complexion with a scar caused by a burn on
the right wrist and her thumb on her left hand mashed

To the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Kent County
       I hereby certify that Henry Scott who is now present
and applying for a certificate of freedom was free born and
raised in Kent County and is now about twenty one years
of age

Henry is five feet eight inches high of a light complexion
with a scar on the back of the right hand

          This is to certify that Alphonsa Shield and Jane Louisa
Shield who are now present & applying for a certificate of
freedom were free born and raised in Kent County
Alphonsa was eighteen years old on March last and Jane
Louisa was seventeen years old in August last
October 22nd 1855                              John Schwatka
Alphonsa is five feet three & one quarter inches high of a
dark complexion with a large scar across the back of the
right hand                     Jane Louisa is five feet & one half
inches high of a dark complexion with no visible mark
