State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;   Whereas on the tenth day of
August in the year of our Lord; one thousand eight hundred and
Twenty two Frederick Purnill of Caroline County by deed of manumission
duly executed acknowledged & recorded amongst the Land records
of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain molatto
man named Luke Walker to be free from the dates of the said manumission
and the said molatto man named Luke Walker having
made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to
the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided  And whereas
also upon the Oath of James McCombs of Caroline County that the
said molatto man named Luke Walker for whom this Certificate
is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify that
the said molatto man named Luke Walker according to his age
as expressed in the said manumission will be thirty seven years
of age the seventeenth day of February Eighteen hundred and
twenty three he is about five feet three and a half inches high
of a molatto Complexion was born in Queen Anns County
& raised in Caroline County and has the fore finger of the left hand
cut off at the second Joint and a long scar on his forehead
over his right eye brow and no other scar or mark that I have observed
           In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the
(seal)   Public seal of my office this 17th day of December Anno

February in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eight John Bradley of Caroline
county by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the Land
record Books of Caroline county did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named
Dark to be free on the first day of January Eighteen hundred & fifteen and the said negro
woman named Dark having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to the act of assembly in such case made & provided & whereas also upon the Oath of Joshua
Boon of Caroline ^county^ that the said negro woman named Dark for whom this Certificate is
made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission  I do therefore
grant her said application and hereby Certify that the said negro woman named
Dark is thirty five years of age or thereabouts she is about five feet one and a half
inches high of a dark complexion was born and raised in Caroline county she
has a small scar under the left eye and no other notable scar or mark
