146 State of Maryland caroline county to wit; Whereas on the twenty third day of December seventeen hundred and ninety nine Sarah Hardcastle and Solomon Kenton of Caroline county by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the land records of Caroline county did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Maria to be free on the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fourteen and the said negro woman named Maria having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas also upon the testimony of John Bradley of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Maria for whom this certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission. I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that the said negro woman named maria is thirty three years of age or thereabouts the twenty third day of December 1821 she is about five feet three and three quarter inches high of a molatto complexion was born and raised in Caroline County has a scar on the back of her right arm between the shoulder & elbow joint nearly the size of half a dollar occasioned by a burn another large scar on the out side of her right leg occasioned by a burn and a large natural mark on the top of her left foot near the toe joints and no other remarkable scars or marks that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 16th day of July (seal) Anno Domini 1822 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline county to wit; Whereas on twenty third day of December seventeen hundred and ninety nine Sarah Hardcastle and Solomon Kenton of Caroline County by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the land records of Caroline county did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Henny to be free on the first day of January Eighteen hundred and twenty two and the said negro woman named Henny having made application to me for a Certificate ^of^ her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas also upon the temony of John Bradly of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Henny for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that the said negro woman named Henny is twenty five years of age or thereabouts the twenty third day of December 1821 she is about five feet one and a half inches high of a dark molatto complexion was born and raised in Caroline County has a small natural mark on her forehead which she calls a black berry a black mole on the Ball of her thumb of her right hand and a small scar occasioned by a Cut by a knife on her left cheek and no other remarkable scars or marks that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office (seal) this 16th day of July Anno Domini 1822 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court |
