169 her mothers account she was sixteen years of age some time in the Month of September last past five feet three inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County Complexion dark brown and has a large scar of a burn on her right arm near the elbow joint and two other small scars on her left and hear the elbow joint and has no other notable mark or scar that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 13th day of June Anno Domini 1842 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost $1.00 Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man named Stephen Wright for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born; And Whereas also upon the Oath of Co.l William Potter of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro woman named Stephen Wright for whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify that from his own account he is now about twenty five years of age five feet nine inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County Complexion black and has a small scar of a cut on the left side of his upper lip and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 16th day of June Anno Domini 1842 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost $1.00 Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit on the thirteenth day of February Eighteen hundred and eight a certain John Bradley of Caroline County by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Dark to be free from and after the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fifteen reserving to himself ^a right and power over the increase of said negro woman Dark during^ the term of her servitude being males until such male shall respectively attain the age of thirty years; And application being made to me by Jefferson Jackson (being one of the issue of the aforesaid Dark) for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act |
