63 Maryland sc.s To all whom it may concern Be it known That I James P Wood of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of five dollars Current money to me in hand paid doth by these presents release liberate manumit and set free my negroe boy James aged about six years to be free on the first day of August in the year Eighteen hundred and forty one and I do hereby declare the aforegoing negro boy James to be free from slavery manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs Executors and administrators at the time herein before mentioned according to the purport true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this fifth day of February Eighteen hundred and Eighteen Signed Seal'd & delivered in the presence of James P Wood (seal) Tho Whittington Jonathan Childs On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of five dollars Current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Test Tho.s Whittington Jonathan Childs James P Wood Anne Arundel County to wit: On this twelfth day of February Eighteen hundred and Eighteen personally appeared James P Wood party to the within Instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the (peace) |
