577 discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted from the several periods therein set forth according to the act of assembly in such Cases made and provided chd Acknowledged before Edward Dubois 4¼ Recorded the 9th day of april 1836 Know all men by these presents that I James M Lucas of Ann Arundel County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to me paid at or before the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and for other good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have liberated manumitted released and discharged from bondage and slavery my negro or mulatto man named Nicholas Nugent aged about thirty three years who is able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance hereby declaring the said Nicholas from henceforward to be absolutely free and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me or any other person or persons whomsoever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this twenty second day of Sept in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty six Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of James M Lucas (seal) Ebenezer Stewart Joshua Rawlings sr On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of maryland Anne Arundel County sct Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this twenty second day of September in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and thirty six before the (subscriber) |
