556 This Indenture witneseth that I Philip Hammond Hopkins of Ann Arundel County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of ten cents to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released from slavery manamated and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my negro woman Sally Williams and her three children James Johnson ten years of age William Johnson five years of age Jacob Henry Williams four months old all of which said negroes are of Healthy Constitutions sound in mind and body William Williams and Sarah Williams their mother have agreed to keep and maintain them until they shall be able to provided for themselves In testimony whereof I the said Philip Hammond Hopkins have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this second day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three Sighen sealed and delivered in presence Philip Hammond Hopkins (seal) of us Caleb White Isaac H White On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Ann Arundel County to wit: Acknowledged before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for the County aforesaid by the within named Philip Hammond Hopkins as his act and deed this second day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three Chd Caleb White 2½ Recorded the 4.th day of November 1833 |
