Examd
I the Subscriber do Certify that on or about the
twentieth day of October Seventeen hundred and Eighty nine
did sell a negro female Child named Eleanor Ross aged
about one month old to Solomon Ross (the Father of
said Eleanor Ross, for the sum of ten pounds Current
money and I do hereby acknowledge to have received
from the aforesaid Solomon Ross the aforesaid sum of
ten pounds Current money in full for the purchase
money of the aforesaid Eleanor Ross.   In Testimony
whereof I do hereby set my hand and seal this fourteenth
day of march Eighteen hundred and six

Know all men by these presents that I Charles
Carroll of Carrollton of the City of Annapolis for divers
Considerations me hereunto moving have manumitted and
set free and by these presents do manumit and set free
a mulatto man named or Commonly John Joice by trade
a shoemaker and a man sound in mind and body
Capable by Labour to procure to himself Sufficient
food and raiment with other Necessaries of life the
                                                                   (said)
