said Thomas J. Hall and son on my draft dated this twenty second day of April in the year eighteen hundred and forty five drawn in favour of J. Hopkins & Co of the City of Baltimore for the sum of three hundred and eighty dollars dollars & seven cents payable six months after the date thereof and accepted by the said Thomas J. Hall & son on and on my other draft dated the twenty second day of April in the year aforesaid drawn in favour of Joshua Dryden for the sum of two hundred & forty seven dollars and ninety four cents current money payable six months after the date thereof and accepted by the said Thomas J. Hall & son and for the purpose of securing unto the said Thomas J. Hall & son whatever other sum or sums of money which may now be due and owing from me to the said Thomas J. Hall & son together with the costs and expenses which may be incurred by the said Thomas J. Hall & son in securing the payment of the above my indebtedness and in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money to me in hand paid by the said Thomas J. Hall & son at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas J. Hall and son their executors administrators and assigns one negro man named Henry aged about twenty five years one other negro man named Ben aged about forty years one negro woman named Matilda aged seventeen one other negro woman named Mary aged about twenty together with all my crop of tobacco now in my house supposed to be about fifteen thousand pounds as well as the crop of wheat now growing on my farm in Anne Arundel County supposed to be about seven hundred bushels To have and To Hold the said negroes herein before granted bargained and sold or meant mentioned or intended so to be unto the said Thomas J. Hall & son their executors administrators or assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the Thomas J. Hall & son their executors administrators or assigns forever provided that always and these presents are upon this condition that if the said George W Nutwell his executors or administrators shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas J. Hall & son their executors administrators or assigns the said sums of money so due and owing as herein before stated on or before the twenty fifth day of October in the year eighteen hundred and forty five then and in this case these presents so far as regards said negroes shall cease and determine and be utterly void any thing herein contained to the contrary thereof in any wise notwithstanding and to have and to hold |
