369 Know all men by these presents Whereas Elizabeth Ruggin of the City of Baltimore by her deed bearing date on the twenty seventh day of August last duly acknowledged and recorded among the records of Baltimore County in Liber T K No 69 folio 212 and for the Consideration therein mentioned grant bargain and sell unto Cornelius McLean his negro slave Caroline commonly called Lina then of the age of fifteen years to serve him for fifteen years from the date of the said deed and therein and thereby manumitted the said Caroline or Lina from and after the expiration of the said term Whereas the said Cornelius McLean applied to the Judges of Anne Arundel County Court at the October Term last passed for an order to allow him to sell her within or without the State in case expence of her having remaining which order was granted and the said Cornelius McLean so authorized to sell the said slave Now therefore this Indenture Witnesseth that the said Cornelius McLean for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and five dollars Current money to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold to Samuel H Redgraves of the City of Baltimore and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell to him his Executors administrators and assigns all the right title interest and Estate which he has in the said Caroline his interest being the residue of the said fifteen years commencing from the date of the said deed dated as aforesaid on the said twenty seventh day of August last aforesaid To have and To hold the said Caroline commonly called Lina for and during the residue of the said term and these presents further Witness that the said Samuel H Redgraves has purchased the said Caroline or Lina for and during the residue of the said term and no longer: In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals on the second day of November in the year one thousand Eight hundred and forty four Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of Caroline McLean (seal) Wm Glover S H Redgraves (seal) At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of maryland Anne Arundel County tow it Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on the second day of November in the year one thousand Eight hundred forty five before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared the above named Cornelius McLean and Samuel H Redgraves who acknowledged the aforegoing bill of sale to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned As Witness my hand on the day and year aforesaid Wm Glover 67 5 Recorded the 15 day of November 1844 |
