Maryland A A County to wit:  On this 3rd day of June 1844 before me the
subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County appeared Lundy
Linstead and acknowledged the within bill of sale to be his act and deed according
to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in such case made
and provided               Witness my hand            Robt Boone

3¼      Recorded the 11th day of June 1844


       Know all men by these presents that I Mary Baldwin of Anne Arundel
County and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred
dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Elijah Williams administrator of
John H Crane late of Anne Arundel County deceased of the said County the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by
these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Elijah Williams his Executors
administrators and assigns for the use of the Estate of the said John H Crane deceased
my negro boy Ben a slave  To have and To hold the said negro slave Ben unto
the said Elijah Williams administrator of John H Crane his Executors administrators
and assigns as aforesaid from the day of the date of these presents untill the 19th
day of December 1856 and not longer upon which day and date the said Negro
slave Ben will be thirty one years of age and face his freedom he is entitled to
by virtue of the fact that he is the child of a certain negro woman named Molly
who with her issue was by a certain Ephraim Duvall late of Anne Arundel
County deceased willed to be free at the age of Thirty one years the aforesaid
negro slave Ben I will warrant and defend unto the said Elijah Williams his
Executors administrators and assigns aforesaid against me my Executors
administrators and assigns and against all other persons whatsoever  In Witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 13th day of June 1844

             On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    State of Maryland Anne Arundel County sct  Be it remembered That on this
the tenth day of June Eighteen hundred and forty four before me a Justice of the
peace for said State in and for said County duly Commissioned and Sworn
appear Mary Baldwin and Elijah Williams they being known unto me to be
the persons who are named and described as and professing to be the parties to
the foregoing bill of sale and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed  In
Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year above
