27 Acknowledged before Lloyd Selby 4 Recorded the 18th day of March 1839 Know all Men by these presents that I Joseph J Speed of Baltimore City in the State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Five hundred and fifty dollars to me in hand paid by George T Ditty of Anne Arundel County in the said State before the sealing of these presents have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said George T Ditty one negro woman named Mary who was aged fourteen years on the Eleventh day of December Eighteen hundred and thirty one and who has to serve until she arrives at the age of thirty one years also her male child named Oliver aged about six year and her female child named Lucey aged near two years both of which Children are slaves for life To have and To hold the said described negro woman Mary for the term aforesaid and the said described negroes Oliver & Lucy for their lives unto the said George T Ditty his heirs Executors administrators and assigns and he the said Joseph J Speed for himself his heirs Executors & administrators the said negroes Mary Oliver & Lucy unto the said George T Ditty his Executors administrators and assigns against him the said Joseph J Speed his Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents and the said George T Ditty doth Covenant that he his Executors administrators and assigns will at the end of the term aforesaid permit the said Mary to go free In Witness Whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this Eighteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & thirty nine Witness as to J J Speed John W Peale J Hadley Ing J J Speed (seal) Witness as to G T Ditty Edward Dubois Gabriel H Duvall George T Ditty (seal) At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Baltimore City Ss. Be it remembered that on this 18th day of February 1839 before the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace for the said City appears Joseph J Speed and acknowledged the above Instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof John W Peale Anne Arundel County Ss Be it remembered that on this twenty third day of February 1839 personally appeared George T Ditty before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace in & for said County and acknowledged that (he) |
