5¼      Recorded the 1st day of July 1843


       Know all men by these presents that I Alfred Johnson of A A County and
State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars Current
money to me in hand paid by Landy Linsted of the County and State aforesaid at
or before the ensealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the said
Alfred Johnson do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these
presents do hereby grant bargain and sell unto the said Landy Linsted his Executors
administrators and assigns one negro boy Henry slave for life and now in my
possession  To have and To hold the said negro boy to the said Landy Linsted
his Executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Alfred Johnson
for myself my heirs Executors and administrators and assigns against me the
said Alfred Johnson my Executors and administrators and against all and every
person or persons whomsoever shall and will well warrant and for ever defend by these
presents  Provided nevertheless that in case I the said Alfred Johnson shall pay and
satisfy to the said Landy Linsted or to his Executors administrators or assigns the sum
of one hundred dollars Current money with Interest for the same on or before the fourth
day of July next ensuing then this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed
shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said
negro is mortgaged by me the said Alfred Johnson to secure to the said Landy Linsted
the payment of the money aforesaid  In Witness whereof I the said Alfred Johnson have
hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifth day of July 1843

          On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    Maryland A A County to wit  On this 5th day of July 1843 before me the
subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County appears Alfred
Johnson and acknowledged the within bill of sale to be his act and deed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in
such case made and provided   Witness my hand         Rob.t Boone

five dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Mary Pitts my negro slave
