166 aforesaid and do grant bargain sell and dispose of the same and all other the premises aforesaid at Public Auction or Vendue in the City of Baltimore or else where first giving five days notice of the time and place of such sale and as the Attorney of the said John D Meekins or otherwise to make seal execute and deliver to the purchaser or purchasers thereof a good and sufficient Bill of sale or other conveyance therefor and out of the monies arising from such sale to retain all such sum or sums of money which shall then be deed on such promissory notes according to the true intent and meaning thereof together with all costs and expenses attending such sale rendering the surplus Money (if any to the said John D Meekins his Executors administrators or assigns In Witness whereof the said John D Meekins has hereunto set his hand and seal this day of in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty Signed sealed and delivered John D Meekins (seal) in the presence of On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sc Be it known that on this seventeenth day of march in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty two before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland in and for Anne Arundel County personally appeared John D Meekins who I am Satisfied of my knowledge is the grantor named in the within mortgage or Instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed chd J W Hunter $1.13 10 Recorded the 17 day of March 1841 Know all men by these presents that I Susan Kirby of Anne Arundel County and state of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifteen dollars in hand paid by John D Merriken of Anne Arundel County and State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said John D Merriken his Executors administrators and assigns one negro Girl named Charlotte aged about Seven years old or thereabouts a slave for life being the same negro Girl Charlotte that was sold at Public Auction at the Sale of Vachel Kirby Estate in Anne Arundel County To have and To hold all and singular the said negro Girl Charlotte above bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be to the said John D Merriken his Executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Susan Kirby for myself my heirs Executors and administrators all and singular the said Negro Girl Charlotte unto the said John D Merriken his Executors administrators and assigns against me the said Susan Kirby my Executors and administrators (and) |
