96 Elijah B. Stevens Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale was √ from xd received and recorded on the 14th day of February 1854 to wit Richard Stevens Know all men by these presents that I Richard Stevens of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of Five Hundred Dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Elijah B. Stevens of the state and County aforesaid at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt Whereof I the said Richard Stevens do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Elijah B. Stevens his Executors administrators and assigns all these negroes Slaves for life hereinafter mentioned that is to say negro Woman Anne aged 37 years negro Boy Joe aged 13 years negro boy Dame aged 9 years negro Girl Rose aged 6 years negro boy George aged 4 years negro boy John aged 2 years negro man Jonathan camper aged 55 years negro man March Ross aged 45 years all slaves for life and now in the possession of the said Elijah B. Stevens to Have and To Hold all and singular the said negroes slaves for life and other the premises above mentioned bargained and sold or intended so to be to the said Elijah B. Stevens his Executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Richard Stevens for myself my heirs Elijah B. Stevens his Executors administrators and assigns against me the said Richard Stevens my Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents, in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of February 1854 Signed sealed and delivered Richard Stevens (seal) in presence of Robert R. Robertson State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this 14th day of February 1854 before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state and County aforesaid personally appeared Richard Stevens party grantor to the within and aforegoing bill of sale and doth acknowledge the same to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such Case made and provided Elijah B. Stevens party grantee within mentioned and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration set forth in the aforegoing bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged and sworn before Robert R. Robertson 1854 February 14th Received of Elijah Stevens one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this bill of Sale F. J. Henry Clk Thos & Levin Dail Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill √ from xd of Sale was received and recorded on the 13 day of February 1854 to wit Eliza & James Akeman Know all men by these presents that we Eliza Akeman & James Akeman of Dorchester County and state of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred three Dollars Current money to us in hand paid by Thomas J. Dail & Levin S. Dail at or before the sealing and deliver^in^g of these presents the receipt whereof we the said Eliza Akeman and James Akeman do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and the said Thomas J. Dail & Levin S. Dail their heirs Executors and administrators 1 Bay Horse one Carriage 6 head of Cattle 1 ox Cart one horse Cart 12 head of hogs 15 Barrels of Corn about 1000 lb |
