282 aforesaid do hereby Certify that on this first day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven before me in the CIty aforesaid personally appeared Theodore Phillips well known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be the party of the first part to the foregoing deed or Indenture and doth acknowledge the same to be his act and deed ; A. H. Pennington J. P. And I do further Certify that on this second day of June 1857 before me also personally appeared Thomas Hooper the Mortgagee within named and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in the foregoing Deed of Mortgage is true and bona fide as therein set forth. In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid A. H. Penington J. P. Dennis Ross Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Manumission √ from xd was received and recorded on the 15th day of June A. D. 1857 to wit: William K Travers I William K Travers of Dorchester County and State of Maryland do hereby manumit and set free my negro slave Dennis Ross aged about thirty seven years five feet three inches high of a Black complexion his freedom to commence from the date of these presents. Witness my hand and seal this 15th day of June A. D. 1857 Test M. Travers W. K. Travers (seal) S W LeCompte State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: I hereby Certify that on this fifteenth day of June Eighteen hundred and fifty seven personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for Dorchester County aforesaid William K Travers and acknowledged the foregoing Deed of Manumission to be his act. S. W. LeCompte J. P. The State of Maryland Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following √ From xd Bond was received and recorded on the 15th day of June 1857 to wit William Creighton Know all men by these precepts that we Wm Creighton Jno R Creighton & William Rea of Dorchester in the State of Maryland are held and bound unto the State of Maryland in the full and just sum of Fifteen thousand Dollars Current money of the United States to be paid to the State of Maryland which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves and every of us ours and every of our heirs executors and administrators in the whole and for the whole jointly and severally by these precepts. Sealed with our seals and dated this 15th day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven. The Condition of the above obligation are such that if the above bounden Wm Creighton shall well and truly discharge the duties of Treasurer of Primary Schools of Dorchester County according to law then the above obligation shall be void otherwise it is to be and remain in full force and virtue in law |
