CHAPTER 534
(House Bill 1125)

AN ACT concerning

Task Force on the Exemption of Law Enforcement Officers' Pensions from

Taxation

FOR the purpose of establishing a Task Force on the Exemption of Law Enforcement
Officers' Pensions from Taxation; establishing the membership of the Task
Force; requiring that Task Force members be appointed by a certain date;
requiring the Governor to designate a chairman of the Task Force; requiring the
State Retirement Agency to staff the Task Force; providing that a Task Force
member is entitled to reimbursement for certain expenses; requiring the Task
Force to study the issue of exempting members of certain retirement or pension
systems from paying State income taxes on their pensions; requiring the Task
Force to report to the Governor and General Assembly on or before a certain
date; providing for the termination of this Act; and generally relating to the Task
Force on the Exemption of Law Enforcement Officers' Pensions from Taxation.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That:

(a)     There is a Task Force on the Exemption of Law Enforcement Officers'
Pensions from Taxation.

(b)     The Task Force consists of the following members:

(1)     two members of the Senate, appointed by the President of the Senate;

(2)     two members of the House of Delegates, appointed by the Speaker of
the House;

(3)     the Secretary of Budget and Management, or the Secretary's
designee;

(4)     the State Treasurer, or the Treasurer's designee;

(5)     the Comptroller of Maryland, or the Comptroller's designee;

(6)     the Executive Director of the State Retirement Agency, or the
Executive Director's designee;

(7)     one representative of members of the State Police Retirement
System, appointed by the Governor; and

(8)     one representative of members of the Law Enforcement Officers'
Pension System, appointed by the Governor;

(9)     one representative of the Maryland State Fraternal Order of Police,
appointed by the Governor; and
