SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
(a) There is a Task Force to Study the Use of Technology to Assist Nurses in
Caring for Patients.
(b) The Task Force shall consist of the following members:
(1) Two members of the Senate, appointed by the President of the
Senate;
(2) Two members of the House of Delegates, appointed by the Speaker of
the House; and
(3) Ten members appointed by the Governor as follows:
(i) Two members from the Maryland Nurses Association;
(ii) Two representatives from the nursing home industry;
(iii) Two representatives from the hospital industry; and
(iv) Four consumer representatives.
(c) The Governor shall appoint the chairperson of the Task Force.
(d) The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene shall provide the staffing
for the Task Force.
(e) The Task Force shall meet at least once each month.
A member of the Task Force may not receive compensation for service on
the Task Force, but shall be reimbursed for expenses under the Standard State Travel
Regulations, as provided in the State budget.
(g) The Task Force shall:
(1) Study the current use of computerized technology by the nursing
community in providing patient care;
(2) Identify technology driven point of care applications to maximize
nursing operational efficiency and improve the quality of patient care in each of the
following areas:
