The Public Local Laws of Cecil County
Section 26-1 through 26-6, inclusive
Article 8 - Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1989 Edition and November 1999 Supplement, as amended) SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article 8 - Cecil County 26-1. The Economic Development Commission of Cecil County is created for the
purpose of advancing the general ECONOMIC welfare of the people through THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF programs and activities [to develop Cecil County's natural
resources and economic opportunities pertaining to commerce] THAT RESULT IN NEW
ECONOMIC ACTIVITY, JOB GROWTH, AND EXPANSION OF THE LOCAL TAX BASE, AND
THAT RELATE TO MANUFACTURING, DISTRIBUTION, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT,
CORPORATE AND REGIONAL OFFICES, agriculture, [forestry, transportation, travel,]
AND tourism [and recreation,]; and to cooperate WITH and offer assistance to existing
industries and businesses IN ORDER TO FACILITATE ECONOMIC EXPANSION, and to
promote and encourage the [establishing] ESTABLISHMENT and location of new
industries and businesses in Cecil County; and [other matters] TO DEVELOP AND
IMPLEMENT WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES intended to foster and develop
gainful employment [and the pursuit of happiness of] OPPORTUNITIES FOR all who
are now or may hereafter be residents of Cecil County. 26-2. The Commission shall consist of not fewer than [nine (9)] TWENTY-THREE (23)
nor more than [fifteen (15)] THIRTY-THREE (33) members, who shall be appointed by
the Board of County Commissioners. [The members shall represent a cross-section of
the economic composition of] MEMBERS SHOULD REASONABLY REPRESENT THE
VARIOUS SECTORS WITHIN Cecil County and shall be selected because of their known
experience and interest in the ECONOMIC development of Cecil County. [Those
organizations representing the same categoric interest shall jointly send to the Board
a list of not less than two (2) nor more than three (3) names of persons duly qualified
and interested in serving on the Commission.] THE MEMBERSHIP SHALL INCLUDE
ONE (1) REPRESENTATIVE FROM EACH MUNICIPAL CORPORATION LOCATED IN THE
COUNTY, WHO SHALL BE SELECTED BY THEIR RESPECTIVE MAYOR AND
COMMISSIONERS. THE MEMBERSHIP SHALL ALSO INCLUDE TWO (2)
REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE, WHO ARE INTERESTED IN
THE ECONOMIC WELL-BEING OF CECIL COUNTY.
