1996 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Reference to the Honorable Parris N. Glendening, Governor of Maryland; the
Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; the
Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates; the Honorable C.A.
"Dutch" Ruppersberger, III, Baltimore County Executive; the Honorable David L.
Winstead, Secretary of Transportation; and the Honorable James Brady, Secretary of
Business and Economic Development, and Robert Hannon, Director of Economic
Development for Baltimore County.

A House Joint Resolution concerning
Volunteers - Maryland Defense Force
FOR the purpose of recognizing the contribution to the State of the Maryland Defense
Force and its members.
WHEREAS, The Maryland Defense Force is composed entirely of volunteers who
train for duty in support of the various State missions of the Maryland National Guard;
and
WHEREAS, The Maryland Defense Force carries out missions and duties that
involve community, service, and humanitarian activities throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, The spirit and dedication shown by the members of the Maryland
Defense Force exemplify the highest traditions of duty to community, State, nation, and
mankind; and
WHEREAS, There is a need to bring to the attention of all Marylanders the many
accomplishments of this effective organization; and
WHEREAS, It is important to the citizens of the State that the members of the
Maryland Defense Force give their time and expertise in worthy causes that benefit all
the citizens of the State; and
WHEREAS, Many of the members of the Maryland Defense Force have prior
service in the armed forces of the United States, rendering such service in both war and
peace; and
WHEREAS, The continued service of the members of the Maryland Defense
Force is a significant asset to the State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Maryland Defense Force and each individual member is to be commended for activities
that benefit the State and its citizens; and be it further
