1996 JOINT RESOLUTIONS

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, After
considering recommendations of the Judicial Compensation Commission, beginning July
October 1, 1996, judicial salaries shall be as follows:

Chief Judge                                                $124,500

Associate Judge                                            114,500 107,300

Court of Special Appeals

Chief Judge                                                $109,500 $103,000

Associate Judge                                            107,000 100,300

Circuit Courts

Judge                                                      $102,500 $96,500

District Court

Chief Judge                                                $107,000 $100,300

Associate Judge                                             95,000 89,200

For Fiscal Year 1997, these salaries include any general salary increase attributable
to the provisions of § 1-703(b) of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article.

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Judicial Compensation Commission Report

FOR the purpose of proposing an alteration to the compensation of the members of the
Judiciary in this State, pursuant to Section 1-708 of the Courts and Judicial
Proceedings Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

WHEREAS, Section 1-708(b)(2) of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article of
the Annotated Code of Maryland establishes a 7-member Judicial Compensation
Commission appointed by the Governor with 2 members, appointed on nomination of the
President of the Senate, 2 members appointed on nomination of the Speaker of the
House of Delegates, 1 member appointed on nomination of the Maryland Bar
Association, and 2 members appointed at large. The Judicial Compensation Commission
is constituted as follows: appointments made on the nomination of the President of the
Senate: John Paterakis and Elizabeth Buck; appointments made on the nomination of the
Speaker of the House of Delegates: Bruce A. Kaufman and Charles R. Jenkins, Sr.;
appointment made on the nomination of the Maryland Bar Association: J. Michael
