Ch. 136

(1992 Replacement Volume and 1994 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

7-608.

(a) This section applies only to Baltimore County.

(b) If a designated bus stop is located along a public road or highway that has a
posted speed limit [greater than 40 miles per hour] OF 40 MILES PER HOUR OR
GREATER, a school bus driv
er shall pick up or discharge each student at the designated
bus stop in a mann
er that does not require the student to walk across the public road or
highway
.

(B) A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER SHALL PICK UP OR DISCHARGE A STUDENT AT A
DESIGNATED BUS STOP THAT IS LOCATED ALONG A PUBLIC ROAD OR HIGHWAY IN
A MANNER THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE THE STUDENT TO WALK ACROSS THE PUBLIC
ROAD OR HIGHWAY:

(1) IF THE STUDENT IS AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT AND THE
PUBLIC ROAD OR HIGHWAY HAS A POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MILES PER HOUR OR
GREATER; AND

(2) IF THE STUDENT IS A SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT AND THE
PUBLIC ROAD OR HIGHWAY HAS A POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 40 MILES PER HOUR OR
GREATER.

(c) A public awareness campaign concerning school bus pick up and discharge
shall be conducted by the Baltimore County Board of Education and the Transportation
Department of the Baltimore County Public Schools, in conjunction with the Baltimore
County Police Department, 1 month prior to the opening of school and during the first
month of each school year.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1995.

Crimes - Throwing Objects at Vehicles

FOR the purpose of expanding a prohibition against throwing, shooting or propelling
certain objects into certain vehicles or instrumentalities of public transportation
