78 William J. Jones Be it remembered that the following Bill Ex.d from 85 of Sale was recorded on the 26.th day of Tho C. & John Jones March 1848, To wit: This Indentured made this twenty first day of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty Eight, between Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors of Col. John Jones decs.d, both of Dorchester County, state of Maryland, of the one part, and William J. Jones of McKeels Point, Dorchester County state of Maryland, of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors as aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and forty dollars, current money, to them in hand paid by the said William J. Jones, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain & sell unto the said William J. Jones, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, one negro man named Stephen and belonging to the Estate of the aforesaid Col. John Jones decs.d for the full time or term of Eight years from the first day of March Eighteen hundred and forty eight, that being the period of time the said Stephen has to serve, at the expiration of which time or term of servitude the said Negro Man Stephen is then to be free. To have and to hold the said Negro Man Stephen unto the said William J. Jones, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, to his and their own use and benefit during all the said time or term above mentioned and no longer - Now the said parties to this Indenture fully agree to all the matters and conditions set forth in this Indenture or bill of sale. In Witness whereof the said Tho.s C. Jones and John Jones of Col. as Executors aforesaid, and William J. Jones aforesaid, have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first herein before written. Witnesses present Tho. C. Jones (seal) James Craig John Jones of Col. (seal) Edward R. Christopher William J. Jones (seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered that and it is hereby certified that on this twenty first day of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty Eight, before me the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace of the state of Maryland, in and for Dorchester County personally appeared Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors of Col. John Jones decs.d aforesaid, together with William J. Jones, who did acknowledge the aforegoing Indenture, or bill of sale, to be their Act and deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning |
