State of Maryland Dorchester County ss   Be it remembered and it is
hereby certified that on this seventh day of January Eighteen hundred
and forty Eight personally appeared James A. Davis before the subscriber
one of the Justices of the Peace for the County & state aforesaid and Acknowledged
the within and aforegoing Bill of sale or instrument of writing to
be his act and deed and delivered the same for the uses & purposes therein
mentioned according to the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided.
Also at the same time personally appeared Richard Colston the Grantee
mentioned in said Bill of sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of
Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in said Bill of sale is
true and bona fide as therein set forth.
Acknowledged & sworn before and Certified by            Robert Bell J. P.


James D. Twelley      Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale
Ex.d   from   55         was recorded on the 17.th day of January 1848, To wit:
Eliz.th H Roberson     Know all men by these presents that I Elizabeth H.
                                 Roberson widow of John Roberson for and in consideration
of the sum of one hundred and seventy five dollars to me in hand
paid by James D. Twilley have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents
do grant, bargain and sell unto the said James D. Twelley my Negro Girl
named Harriet aged about twelve years slave for life and sound in body
and mind      To have and to hold the said Negro Girl Harriet aged
twelve years as above bargained and sold unto the said James D. Twilley,
his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns against me the said Elizabeth
H. Roberson, Administrators, my heirs, executors and Administrators and against
all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant and defend.
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this third
day of January 1848.

State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:   On this third day of January 1848
before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County and State
personally appeared Elizabeth H. Roberson Admr afs.d and acknowledged the above
Bill of sale or instrument of writing to be her Act and deed according to the
true intent and meaning thereof.      Acknowledged before

On the same day and year afs.d came before me Justice afs.d James D.
Twilley and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the
consideration named in the above Bill of sale is true and bona fide
as therein set forth.
