170. by Margaret Tindal (the wife of Miles Tindal J.r) of the County & State aforesaid, at or before the sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof I, the said W. V. M. Edmondson, do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said Margaret Tindal, her executors, Administrators & Assigns, a certain Negro woman named Susan, a slave untill the twenty first of April Eighteen hundred & seventy four (she being the same which I, the said Edmondson purchased from Anthony C. Thompson) Her issue if any hereafter to be slaves for life. To have and to hold the said Negro Woman Susan, slave for a term of years as aforesaid, above bargained & sold, or intended so to be, to the said Margaret Tindal, her executors, Administrators & assigns And I, the said W. V. M. Edmondson, for myself, ^my^ executors, administrators, the said negro woman Susan, as a slave for a term of years, unto the said Margaret Tindal, her executors, administrators & Assigns, against me the said W. V. M. Edmondson, my executors and administrators, and against all and every other person or persons, claiming under, or by, my authority, shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof we, the said W. V. M. Edmondson and Margaret Tindal, have hereunto set our hands & seals this twenty second day of September ^in the year of our Lord^ Eighteen hundred & forty eight. W. V. M. V. M. Edmondson, the grantor, and Margaret Tindal, the grantee, the parties of and to and named in the within (Bill of sale & purchase) or instrument of writing, and acknowledges the same to be their Act & deed, and the negro woman Susan therein sold & purchased to be now conveyed and accepted, according to the true intent & meaning thereof and the Acts of Assembly in such case made & provided. Taken & certified the day & year above written before John D. Stevens, J. P. Edward Pritchett Be it remembered that the following Assignment from of Mortgage was recorded April 11./////////// 1849, To wit: Peter Wheeler This Indenture made this Eleventh day of April in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & forty nine between Peter Wheeler of Dorchester County & state of Maryland of the one part, and Edward Pritchett of Zebulon of the same County & state aforesaid, of the other part.
