Administrators and Assigns forever:  And I the said Thomas Cook S.r for
myself, my heirs, executors and Administrators the said Negro Boy James Payn
unto the said William S. Cook, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns
against me the said Thomas Cook S.r, my executors, Administrators and
against all and every other person or persons whatever shall and will
warrant and forever defend by these presents.  As Witness my hand & seal
this 26.th day of June Eighteen hundred and forty seven.           his

Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:  Be it remembered that on this
             day of               Eighteen hundred and forty seven before the
subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace of the said state in and for
the County aforesaid personally appeared Thomas Cook S.r party to
the within Indenture and acknowledged the said Indenture to be  his
Act and deed                                                Robert H. Muir


Thomas J. Pattison          Be it remembered that the following Manumission
          To        Ex.d         was recorded on the 26.th day of July 1847.
Jinkins Miller Negro        State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:
                                      Know all men by these presents that I Thomas
James Pattison of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for
divers good causes me thereunto moving have released from slavery,
liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby
release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my negro
man Jinkins Miller (after serving John E. Stevens the term of
Fifteen years from the twentieth day of May Eighteen hundred
and forty six) and him the said Jinkins Miller I do declare to
be free after serving as aforesaid and discharged from all manner
of service or servitude to me, my Executors or Administrators forever.
In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this twenty fourth
day of July Eighteen hundred and forty seven.

State of Maryland Dorchester County Sct
Be it remembered that on this twenty fourth day of July Eighteen
hundred and forty seven before the subscriber a Justice of the
Peace for said County appears Thomas James Pattison
and acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be his
act and deed according to the true intent and meaning
thereof.      Acknowledged before
