422. the said Smart B. LeCompte do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said Sarah Rauleigh, her Executors, Administrators and Assigns all my wright, title, claim and demand of and to the following property to wit: namely Rebeca aged thirty five years July Ann aged twenty year Glasgo aged sixteen years Mary Elizabeth aged nine years, Margaret Amy aged six years all which said Negroes I convey back to the said Sarah Rauleigh all of my wright title and interest of and to the same In testimony whereof the said Smart B. LeCompte hereunto set his hand & seal on the third day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of S. B. LeCompte (Seal) Brannock Moore Maryland Dorchester County To wit: on this third day of April Eighteen hundred and forty seven personally appeared Smart B. LeCompte before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly made & provided in such cases. Given under my hand & seal the day and year above written Brannock Moore (J P) James A. Stewart Be it remembered that the following Bill of Ex.d from Sale was recorded on the 14.th day of April 1847 Solomon Foxwell & Know all men by these presents that we Charles Charles Shenton Shenton and Solomon Foxwell of Dorchester County & state of Maryland for the consideration of the sum of one hundred and ninety nine dollars to us in hand paid by James A. Stewart of the County and State aforesaid the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell & deliver unto the said James A. Stewart one Negro Girl Mary a slave for life which said slave we will warrant and defend to the said James A. Stewart, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns and against us, our Executors and Administrators and against every other person or persons whomsoever.
